Job Description:

We’re looking for a versatile, experienced and hands-on Marketing and Events Manager to build CNYB’s brand in a crowded and competitive New York market. Successful business events is one of the pillars of the brand’s marketing and audience-building strategy.

The primary focus of the Marketing and Events Manager will be to work across departments – Newsroom, Sales and Custom — to plan and implement in-person and virtual events. With any event, the Manager will work closely with the Associate Publisher and the sales team to create and fulfill sponsorship opportunities and client expectations.

The Manager reports to the Publisher but is part of a two-person event team and an eight-person marketing team that serves four Crain brands.

The Manager will work with the Group Marketing Director to conceptualize and execute integrated marketing campaigns across editorial, events, custom and sales promotion. The manager will have access to a team of graphic designers, e-mail specialists and audience developers in order to produce and execute marketing assets and communications that drive leads, build pipeline and meet other KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall strategy, planning and execution of Crain’s conferences, award receptions, webcasts, seminars and networking events.
  • Working with Associate Publisher and Custom director, create sponsorship packages and oversee fulfillment.
  • Manage each event’s P&L, including revenues and expenses
  • Define and implement go to market plans to build awareness, grow traffic, and meet sales objectives.
  • Lead the strategy, development and execution of marketing initiatives that drive event registrations (tickets sales/tables) through various channels (i.e. email, social, web, print).

  • Work with sales team to put together high-impact sales and marketing collateral.
  • Manage logistics, budgeting, and scheduling elements as related to campaigns, including project-managing cross-functional team members of various levels to drive expected timelines and outcomes
  • Oversee nomination program logistics working with key newsroom stakeholders, consistently tracking submissions adjusting marketing efforts as needed to meet goals.

  • Identify and manage opportunities opportunity for strategic partnerships with vendors, venues and organizations to support and grow CNYB products and initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, communications, business, hospitality management or a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience specifically focused on event management.
  • At least 5 years of general marketing experience.
  • Strong project management, sales and management skills.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into goal-oriented marketing campaigns
  • Hands-on experience in the production of live events, live-to-tape and live webcasts and/or webinars and other virtual events.
  • Expertise in cost estimating, project budgeting and reporting.
  • Proven ability to plan, manage, and execute multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
  • Strong negotiation, project and time management skills.
  • Poised and confident manner as position interacts with senior level executives.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-team environment.

Preferences

  • Experience in working at a media company.
  • Experience with project-management software, especially SmartSheet
  • Experience with such event registration software platforms as Zoom, Go ToWebinar and On24
  • Marketing experience in a B2B field.
  • Event management experience in NYC event market.

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
