Job Description:

The Event Manager is responsible for the execution of the PLTW event experience strategy through the thoughtful and intentional planning, delivery, and evaluation of PLTW events. This role supports strategic event initiatives and serves as business owner for assigned events, partnering with cross-functional teams to improve and implement processes and tools that create an excellent participant experience and support event delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and develop Team Members responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating event experiences
  • Contribute to and advise on strategic planning for PLTW event experience design
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to effectively design and execute event marketing and communications, registration and housing, sponsor and exhibitor, and other strategies and tactics
  • Oversee relationships with event venues and lead onsite event management for assigned events, acting as a liaison between venue and event staff, demonstrating a strong customer service and problem-solving orientation
  • Develop, manage, analyze, and improve processes and tools related to the planning and execution of PLTW events, aligning an excellent participant experience with efficient use of resources
  • Build, develop, and maintain highly collaborative and effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization and across the PLTW network to keenly understand event participant and contributor needs and preferences
  • Contribute to the continuous evaluation and improvement of event technologies, including requirements definition, implementation and roll-out, and team/network training as needed
  • Contribute to overall budget, forecasting, event schedule management, and post-event expense reconciliation. Source and negotiate select vendor agreements and oversee operational issues to maintain or lower project costs
  • Provide effective and timely communications with all levels of the organization and proactively manage stakeholder needs and responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in event management, communications, hospitality, media management, or related area of study is required
  • CMP or CMP eligible candidates preferred
  • Significant event planning and team management experience is required


Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated success in conference and event planning
  • Strong project management skills, keen attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of the event planning cycle
  • Demonstrated experience and success negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and coach team members to work proactively, prioritize, and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently, resourcefully seek answers, and remove obstacles
  • Creative and critical thinking skills with a focus to risk mitigation and problem solving
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Results oriented and accountable with the ability to consistently meet deadlines
