Job Description:

The Director, Special Events is responsible for securing and managing special and private events at Barclays Center. The role’s responsibilities will include both sales and management functions, seeking new business opportunities and partnering with existing clients. Events include but are not limited to seminars, film premieres, television network up-fronts, corporate meetings, product launches, trade shows, fundraisers, television and film shoots, private parties and graduations. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with an established network in the private event industry, have a positive attitude and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description – What You Will Do

  • Supervise, produce and execute all aspects of the sales process to include outbound communication, networking, responding to inquiries, venue walk-throughs, the assessment of event needs and the subsequent generation of estimates;
  • Closing on new business and the renewal of existing business;
  • Collaborate with other members of the Entertainment team to optimize the calendar and maximize revenue for the department as a whole;
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, such as Producers, Promoters, Educational Institutions, TV networks, PR and Marketing Agencies, Non-Profit Organizations, and Event Planners;
  • Conduct research and analysis within the market to remain competitive;
  • Once an event is confirmed, manage and execute event needs to include internal communication, production requirements, staffing needs, catering, ticketing and marketing;
  • Manage all aspects of financial and legal administration of events to include venue deposits, deposit letters, deal letters, contract preparation and execution, insurance certificates, oversight of the budget, event settlement and collection of payment;
  • Ensure that event needs are satisfied while maintaining company policies and adhering to labor agreements;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or department head;

Candidate Profile – Who You Are

  • Strong experience in the special event industry (5-7 years + preferred);
  • Experience in event budgeting and contract negotiation;
  • Knowledge of venue booking procedures;
  • Excellent communication and project management skills;
  • Flexibility – ability to multitask and interact with diverse entities;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with direct oversight into events and their attendees;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish working relationships across the organization;
  • Ability to identify problems and seek solutions;
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of pending projects as well as the practice of discretion at high profile events;
  • Flexibility to work late hours, weekends and holidays as needed;
  • Flexible and reliable standout colleague, always acting in the best interest of their department and the company as a whole;
  • Ability to build and maintain productive, positive relationships through strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to manage one’s own time and prioritize tasks when given clearly defined goals and objectives;
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree

Work Environment
Works primarily in an office environment, but as event schedule dictates, will be expected to events on evenings, weekends and holidays.
