Job Description:

The Director of Events and Design leads Sephora’s Events Team (including one Manager) and Graphic Design Team (including two Designers and one Project Manager) and oversees the strategic planning and execution of internal meetings/events and design projects for our corporate office. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Director will have a deep knowledge of large scale/complicated programs and maintain first-class standards, policies, and procedures for how Sephora executes our projects.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Hire, lead and develop a team of event managers and designers and build out the company strategy around, meetings/conferences, and design projects (remote and in-office) – directing and delivering Sephora’s vision
  • Shape the strategy of monthly corporate engagement program events
  • Oversee project management of events programs and some internal communication programs (with aide from project manager)
  • Implement first-class standards, policies, and procedures for how Sephora executes meetings and events (including virtual, live and hybrid)
  • Define program/project goals and timelines related to key projects and deliverables
  • Collaborate with Sephora Leaders on planning, management and execution of employee meetings and conferences. This includes (but not limited to): Town Halls, Brand Summit, SLC, Opcom and HR Offsites
  • Work cross-functionally with internal leaders and business partners to:
  • Ensure the business purpose of each meeting/conference is aligned with objectives and that themes/ideas are kept alive as needed across each event
  • Ensure meeting planning and logistics support the desired outcome of the meeting/conference
  • Gather feedback from attendees and incorporate big ideas into future meetings and conferences
  • Ensure design deliverables tell a story and remain consistent to the Sephora brand
  • Be both a strategist and an operator, managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Work with external business partners to:
  • Source meeting/conference locations and oversee contract negotiations
  • Partner with external suppliers and agencies as needed
  • Meticulously monitor and control expenses/program budgets up to $6M
  • Oversee event staffing and contractors onsite
  • Create and implement ongoing metrics, both qualitative and quantitative to measure success of meetings/events and design deliverables
  • Help bring to life the culture of Sephora while balancing local needs and customs that helps attract, retain, and inspire employees in FSC and field locations.

Core Competencies & Accomplishments

  • Minimum of eight years of relevant experience (events, company meetings, communications, creative)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field experience
  • Understanding of both agency-side and client/corporate events side would be preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in people management
  • Extensive program management experience including excellent time management, resource management and planning skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage internal client relationships, including executive level, in mid-to-large-size organizations
  • Strong influence, negotiating and command skills under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present information in group settings
  • Superior budget management and able to identify company savings
  • Passionate about process and innate attention to detail; able to detect inconsistencies, error, and identify way to correct these issues
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment while being a self-starter
  • Extensive virtual and/or online platform experience (ZOOM, Teams, etc)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Web-based project management software (e.g., SmartSheet)
  • Action-oriented, with ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with various levels in the department
  • Flexible and able to learn on the fly in a constantly evolving, team environment
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • CMP certified helpful
