Job Description:

MKTG Regional Directors are dynamic leaders with strong management and team building skills. They are ultimately responsible for leading a team of event producers and associate producers on several simultaneous events and event related projects, so a successful Director must be flexible and have an expert understanding of event activation. The individual must possess leadership skills, be able to develop and mentor personnel, have outstanding communication abilities, ambition and sound business judgment. Directors are key contributors to a cross functional team and are closely connected to multiple departments, central & regional counterparts as well as client stakeholders to ensure execution of all regional programs at quality levels that consistently exceed client expectations

Position Responsibilities

  • Interface at the executive level, developing and maintaining client relationships; assists in providing long-term perspective for brand and business growth
  • Act as strategic business partner to key client stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and a passion for client’s industry / Diageo brands
  • Lead and manage regional activation team consisting of Producers and Associate Producers to ensure event flawless execution throughout the regional events
  • Develop; retain and motivate direct reports and ensure actionable steps are taken in succession planning
  • Ensure activation teams and local staff are trained on brand experiential strategies, activation guidelines, production principles, standard operating procedures, and event protocols
  • Provide continuous and constructive feedback to direct reports; conduct performance reviews
  • Provide complete regional oversight of sponsorship negotiation and event approvals including comprehensive knowledge of regional/local events that best match brand goals and investments
  • Lead direct communication with regional counterparts and broader central team, including weekly status meetings
  • Ensure markets are performing and achieving program KPIs
  • Provide ongoing quantitative and qualitative insights / feedback to central team and regional counterparts
  • Implement process and timelines for event contracts, submissions, supporting documentation and approvals

Organizational Purpose

  • Oversee market sponsorship, scheduling, and execution process
  • Work in conjunction with Diageo Central Planning & Activation team(s)
  • Regularly visit in-region markets to carefully monitor and evaluate events
  • Coordinate regularly scheduled status meetings with MKTG and Diageo in each major market
  • Working closely with MKTG operations team, ensure systems and guidelines for event management, trainings, debriefings and budget maintenance are followed
  • Interface regularly with direct reports to provide status updates, event guidance and leadership
  • Facilitate an effective flow of communication with relevant local stakeholders

Financial Responsibility

  • Monitor as well as oversee all respective activation budgets with the inputs from activation managers and Central planning teams
  • Proactively manages and forecasts budgets
  • Oversees client & program budgets including creating, tracking, billing, reporting and client approvals
  • Review and ensure MM budgets and expense reports are submitted on time and are within the parameters provided by finance/client

Management Responsibility

  • Reports to MKTG VP Activation
  • Direct reports – Event Producers in following markets: Chicago, Miami, New York, Houston and Atlanta
  • Effective development of 10 remote direct reports (approx.)
  • Effective management across 10 regional markets (approx.)
  • Collaborates with central planning team
  • Enforcement / adherence of state sampling legalities in activations
  • Ensure direct reports follow policies and procedures established
  • Responsible for the hiring of MKTG employees (f/t and p/t)


  • Evaluate effectiveness of current activation tactics / methods to assist in developing new tactics specific to market needs
  • Oversee Producers in enforcing deadlines for activation scopes and paperwork
  • Meet regularly with client stakeholders and MKTG regional teams
  • Ensure that activation personnel are trained on systems, processes and adhere to policies and procedures
  • Provide qualitative feedback to MKTG Central Planning teams
  • Oversee the input of the pertinent data based on regional event activations


Position Requirements

  • 7+ years consumer marketing and/or relevant agency experience
  • 5+ years of experience producing experiential / event project within a marketing or communications environment
  • Team leader mentality with superior management and organization prowess is a must.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the pulse of regional markets
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong budget management skills
  • Experienced negotiator with an aptitude to define solutions that will generate measurable results for the client
  • Excellent presentation and effective training experience
  • Thorough knowledge of beer and spirits industry (three tier system)
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Able to effectively source candidates to ensure a match to the position/organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Keynote and Outlook
