Job Description:

SIFMA is looking for a dynamic Assistant Vice President, Conference & Events Sponsorship and Exhibit Sales to present and close deals for event sponsorship and exhibits and other event related sales projects. Preferred candidates will already have established relationships with financial services vendors and/or law firm marketing development personnel. Must have proven track record of sales and be willing to make cold calls and develop new business. New business quota requirements are expected and will be measured.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify financial services vendors and related businesses to solicit for sponsorship of targeted association events.
  • Present, negotiate and close sponsorship deals from the inception of the sale, contract negotiation thru post-event entitlements.
  • Employ a consultative sales approach to build long lasting relationships and to provide excellent customer service.
  • Strategize, develop, and create sponsorship and marketing materials.
  • Secure and conduct face-to-face sales meetings as well as through cold calling and email campaigns.
  • Maintain detailed excel files of all relevant sponsor communications.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal staff leads and external vendors.
  • Develop event specific sales and sponsorship budgets on an annual basis.
  • Relationship sales manager with SIFMA’s conference management system, digital platform and mobile app providers, responsible for channeling sales team inquires and point person in scheduling 1:1 meetings, webinars, and staff training.
  • Responsible for managing weekly sales email campaigns, coordinating with SIFMA’s Marketing Team.


  • Project management, networking, negotiating, research, relationship development.


  • Bachelor’s degree, Certified Exhibition Management (CEM) preferred.
  • 5+ years of sales experience in exhibit and sponsorship sales, financial services industry a plus.
  • Demonstrated full working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, LinkedIn, and familiarity with database use and functionality.
  • Database management experience a plus.
  • 3+ years of event marketing experience involving the development of detailed sales and marketing plan/strategy and supporting marketing materials.
  • Organized; manages time well; team oriented; collaborative; positive; innovative; diplomatic, cultural sensitivity.
  • Individual must be detail-oriented with excellent communications and follow up skills.
  • Requires the ability to work independently as well with other staff members, vendors, and industry contacts, and can organize work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Must be able to take ownership and lead on projects when acting as lead project manager.
  • Required to make non-routine decisions.
  • Ability to travel 10-15%.
  • Ability to work late hours when required.
